History Of Barbiturates
German researcher Adolph Baeyer was the first to discover the base of Barbiturates by using Barbituric Acid. The first Barbital that was used was during 1903 and was only used for medical purposes. In 1864 he was working on the synthesis of a drug using urea and malonic acid, this synthetic drug then cam to be known as the Barbituric acid, which was named after St. Barbara's Day. The day that he found about the drug he stopped by his local tavern to celebrate St. Barbara's birthday, which was an excuse to overly drink.

Those in current medical use are the schedule IV drug Brevital. Schedule III drugs Surital Barbiturate abusers prefer the schedule II short acting and intermediate acting barbiturates that include pentobarbital. The action of the drug will last anywhere from 15-40 minutes, the effects can last about 6 hours until the drug wears off.
